Entertainment pundit Ernest Adu Kumi has raised concerns over the lack of major event venues in Ghana, while criticising industry stakeholders for politicising critical issues affecting the creative arts sector.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on April 20, 2026, Kumi noted that despite numerous promises by politicians to develop the creative industry, little tangible progress has been made.
“It’s unfortunate, and we can only plead. But what happens if those pleas are ignored?” he questioned.
“We’ve turned everything into politics. There have been countless promises from politicians, yet we fail to hold them accountable because of our political interests and affiliations.”
He further lamented that individuals who speak out about the industry’s challenges often face backlash, depending on which political party is in power.
“Anytime you raise these concerns, supporters of the sitting government push back and sometimes, these are people within the industry itself,” he said.
Kumi also highlighted the country’s inadequate infrastructure, stressing that Ghana currently lacks a single large-scale venue capable of hosting major events.
“We don’t even have one proper, sizeable space to host big events, yet we complain when challenges arise,” he added.
