Creative and cultural platform Blacvolta has issued a statement clarifying the intent behind its recently launched “The One Percent” initiative, following days of criticism and online debate surrounding the project and some personalities linked to it.
In a statement released on Tuesday, May 12, Blacvolta said the initiative was never designed to portray exclusivity or determine who qualifies as the elite within Ghana’s creative industry.
According to the company, “The One Percent” was introduced as the starting point of a broader ecosystem aimed at connecting creatives, entrepreneurs, and industry players through mentorship, collaboration, networking, and growth opportunities.
The platform explained that since its founding in 2021, it has focused on amplifying African stories and bridging Africa with the diaspora through culture, tourism, music, fashion, innovation, and community-driven initiatives.
Blacvolta noted that over the years, its events, campaigns, podcasts, productions, and partnerships have reached millions globally while helping position Ghana and other African countries as hubs for creativity, culture, investment, and opportunity.
Addressing concerns raised online, the company acknowledged the public criticism surrounding the launch and stated that it had carefully listened to feedback from audiences and stakeholders.
“As a platform built by and for the culture, we understand the responsibility that comes with influence and visibility,” the statement said, adding that the company remains committed to learning, improving, and engaging constructively with its audience.
The company also responded to concerns regarding the association of some individuals connected to the event who are currently facing serious allegations.
Blacvolta stressed that it does not condone sexual assault, abuse, or harmful behavior in any form, while emphasizing its belief in due process and the role of legal institutions in handling such matters fairly.
The statement further clarified that collaborations within the tourism, entertainment, and media industries often involve a wide network of creatives and public figures, and such professional relationships should not automatically be interpreted as endorsements of alleged misconduct or personal behavior.
