Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, has been released from custody after successfully meeting the GH¢30 million bail condition imposed on him in connection with an ongoing extradition case linked to the United States.
The development was confirmed by a member of his legal team, lawyer Papa Kofi Essel, who disclosed that Abu Trica regained his freedom on Friday, May 15, after several months in detention.
Speaking to Citi News, Papa Kofi Essel said Abu Trica was released in the early hours of Friday and described the development as an indication that the rule of law is working and that Ghana continues to uphold the fundamental human rights of its citizens.
The social media personality had been in police custody since December 2025 after Ghanaian authorities acted on an extradition request from the United States government.
The request relates to allegations of romance fraud and other suspected cybercrime-related offences reportedly being investigated by American authorities.
His arrest sparked widespread debate among sections of the public, with some calling for due process to be strictly followed while others questioned the circumstances surrounding the extradition proceedings.
Although he has now been released from custody, Abu Trica is still expected to comply with all conditions attached to the bail agreement as legal processes surrounding the extradition request continue.
The GH¢30 million bail condition had earlier generated significant public conversation due to the huge amount involved, with many describing it as one of the most notable bail terms handed to a suspect in recent times.
