Actress Tracey Boakye has called on the public to stop body shaming and judging people on social media, stressing that many individuals may be silently battling health challenges and personal struggles.
The actress made the remarks when she visited the family of late actress Beverly Afaglo to commiserate with them following her passing.
Speaking emotionally during the visit, Tracey Boakye urged people to be more compassionate, especially towards individuals who may have undergone surgery or are dealing with difficult situations privately.
“Leave people to be who they are, not everyone who has undergone surgery can be active on social media again. You don’t know what people are battling.”
She further criticised the culture of mocking and body shaming people online, noting that many social media users make insensitive comments without understanding what others may be going through behind closed doors.
“The comment section will be congratulating you for your big stomach, not knowing whether or not the person has undergone surgery. Don’t let people go into their rooms crying. You laugh at people who trim their hair. You don’t know what the person is going through.”
According to the actress, society must learn to allow people to live their lives without constant criticism and ridicule.
“And we should leave people to live their lives. Let’s all learn from this,” she concluded.
