Frederick Kuma, popularly known as Abu Trica, has opened up about the emotional and psychological toll his detention took on him, disclosing that there were moments he felt like crying and “going mad” while in custody.
Speaking in an interview with Captain Smart on Onua TV on Wednesday, June 3, Abu Trica recounted the loneliness and distress he endured during his time in detention, insisting that he was innocent of the allegations levelled against him.
“I felt very bad. I sometimes felt like crying and going mad,” he said.
According to him, the conditions of his detention left him isolated for weeks, forcing him to grapple with his thoughts alone.
“I could be talking to myself because where the narcotics officers took me was a very lonely room that I was the only one occupying. For about a month, I was the only one there, knowing that I was innocent of all the accusations, so you can imagine what I was going through,” he recounted.
Abu Trica said one of the most painful aspects of the experience was being separated from his family, particularly his young son.
“Leaving my family and my four-year-old son, all because I was helping someone, was very difficult,” he lamented.
The businessman further maintained that he had no involvement in any fraudulent activity and claimed that people in his hometown could attest to his character.
“Even when the informant went to Swedru to look for me, he was told that I do not indulge in any fraudulent activities,” he stated.
Abu Trica was arrested in December 2025 following an extradition request from the United States, where he is wanted in connection with alleged romance fraud and related offences.
