Nigerian filmmaker and actor Pascal Amanfo has criticised fashion icon Nana Akua Addo over comments he says misrepresented how actress Yvonne Nelson was cast in a film they worked on years ago.
In a video shared on Instagram on June 12, 2026, Pascal Amanfo said Nana Akua Addo had shared a poster from a movie he directed and she produced, suggesting that Yvonne Nelson had once starred in a project under her production.
According to him, the post created a misleading impression about the circumstances that led to Yvonne Nelson joining the cast.
“So, my dear Nana, someone brought my attention to a TikTok post where, whilst responding to certain commenters, you were sharing the poster of a movie I directed, a movie you produced from years ago that had Yvonne Nelson as part of the cast, and you were slightly insinuating that, after all, you had their fave cast in your movie.
“Now, I think that’s highly unnecessary and a bit of an ego drive because it’s a distortion of the truth. You wanted Yvonne Nelson to be part of that movie.”
Pascal Amanfo explained that Yvonne Nelson was initially unwilling to take part in the project and that efforts were made to convince her to join the cast.
According to him, Nana Akua Addo did not have direct access to the actress at the time, and both he and actor Prince David Osei had to persuade her to accept the role.
“You had no personal or professional access to Yvonne Nelson. Prince David and I begged Yvonne Nelson to be part of that movie. She did not want to do that movie. We begged Yvonne Nelson to do that movie.
“She was very particular about the kinds of movies that she got involved in for certain reasons. She did not want to do that movie.”
Pascal Amanfo further noted that while Nana Akua Addo has built a respected brand, the same respect should be extended to Yvonne Nelson and other established figures within the entertainment industry.
“No one can take away from you the brand you have built. Nana Akua Addo is a brand. Yvonne Nelson is a brand.
“While we respect you for the brand you are building, we must also respect those who came before you. It’s important that fact is made and that fact is respected,” he added.
