Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga has thrown his weight behind fellow musician Simi in a call against internet fraud by Nigerians.
Simi on last Saturday in a live Instagram video was challenged by a fan who told her that Yahoo boys are the ones buying her songs and watching her videos on YouTube.
In reply to the fan, Simi stated that if the Yahoo boys are going to rationalise doing wrong by
claiming that they buy her songs, they should stop patronizing her songs or watching her videos.
She further expressed that she does not understand why people would glorify what is wrong when
some of the same internet fraudsters gain their wealth by using charms on unsuspecting victims.
The singer also used an incident where someone she knows stated that Yahoo boys are still working
as an excuse to rationalise what they do.
The comment has received a mixed reaction from Nigerians.
Lastest among the reaction is a comment from MI Abaga which supports Simi’s statement earlier.
He stated, “In the spirit of uplifting our Queens. @symplysimi I applaud your courage and your fortitude for speaking out on what you believe!!! The truth is that the scourge of internet fraud is hurting us more than it is helping us. and please don’t misunderstand.. this country is so hard that I judge no man because I am imperfect. But we must not attack those that remind us of what we should be.. that energy is for us to vote.. us to speak out against our elected officials.. and for us to do a better job at lifting all young Nigerians so that they never have to turn away from righteousness to provide food to eat. We may be forced to eat with dirty hands.. but it doesn’t mean we should piss in clean water 🙏🏾”
But this comes as a surprise because MI Abaga has mostly appreciated the efforts of Yahoo boys for their contribution to the Nigerian music industry, in an interview on Loose Talk in 2017 MI stated
“There’s no bank in the history of Nigeria that has given one Naira to any label. There’s one corporate entity that has given any label. It’s young guys.”, M.I emphasised. “In fact, you’re more likely to get money from a Yahoo boy. Shout-out to Yahoo boys. May God prosper your business.“
Anyway, people are allowed to grow and have a change of mind.
