Ghanaian highlife artiste, Obrafour has said that for all the years he has been in the music industry, it took eleven years to start receiving royalties.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Citi TV’s Hall of Fame, he said the royalties stopped coming in the past two years.
When the host, AJ Sarpong asked if he is receiving royalties, he replied, “well for two years I’ve not but it took about 11 years for me to receive anything and when I started receiving, it stopped two years back I’ve not received anything.”
Most musicians have complained about the poor royalty sytem in Ghana. However, the President of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) has said that plans are advanced in making sure the organisation blocks all the leaks in the royalty collection chain so musicians get appreciable amounts as royalties.
Obrafour who has been in the music industry for 20 years is celebrating his 20th anniversary this year.
He will be hosting a mega concert in November, 2019.
