Nana Richard Abiona popularly known as Fuse ODG has said he has had to turn down initiatives that are geared towards raising money for Africa.
The ‘Antenna’ singer who has been preaching New Africa to let the world see positive images about Africa, mentioned he had to turn down the offer to raise money for Africa because it was for a short term which is not what Ghana needs.
He said there have been so many things he has had to say no to because they portray Africa in a negative light.
Speaking to Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM, he said he would only feel the new Africa has finally arrived when he sees changes, adding that “when our minds change as a people and we start loving each other and protecting each other and fighting for each other”
When the host asked if he has faced challenges pushing this agenda, he said there were so many times he had to decline to raise money for certain causes.
Since they were going to raise money but they wouldn’t come on holidays or invest in businesses in Africa.
And in saying no, people do not understand why he said no to some of these fundraising projects.
To explain further, he said, “In fact, there’s more poverty in America than I’ve seen in Ghana. I’ve seen more homeless people in America than I’ve seen in Ghana. I’ve seen more drug addicts in America than I’ve seen in Ghana but they don’t show those images because they know that people wouldn’t want to go there.
“We go to America because we want to do our shopping, have a great time so, people should be able to do the same for Ghana so I look at it from a long term perspective about empowering us, telling our story in a positive way so we love ourselves so that way we can build our own country.
“When they come, they’ll give us their money, they’ll give us business and we’ll be able to build from that perspective rather than from the charity perspective” he concluded.
