As entries have been opened for Vodafone Music Awards, Ghanaian highlife artiste, Rex Omar has said the ban on Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale should not be lifted.
Speaking to MzGee on 3FM, he said principles are supposed to be adhered to and that it is the only way the up and coming artistes will learn not to repeat the same mistake these two acts committed.
“Principles are very very important. When you make a decision, you have to understand the reason why you’re making a decision and when you do make that decision, you have to stay at it. At the end of the day, Ghana Music Award is a private enterprise so whoever made that decision, if something has changed that necessitates the changing of the decision; I’m not the one to say that.
“But if nothing has changed and want to be principle as to why they make those decisions, yes Shatta Wale is a big artiste, I’m one of his fans but principles are principles. What happened that day is wrong. It was wrong then, it is wrong now. Do we want continuation, lift the ban” he said
When MzGee reminded him that the two artistes have realized their mistakes and made peace between the two camps, SM and Bhim Nation, Rex sited a scenario saying that was no reason enough to lift the ban.
“So are you saying that somebody picked the gun and shot somebody, the person died. The person who killed that person went to jail and he’s got a presidential pardon so then what? We should allow everybody to pick a gun and kill? “He quizzed.
He that Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are not the first artistes top have made names for themselves.
“What happened there, it shouldn’t happen again and the only way, if I was Shatta Wale’s manager, I will go and tell Ghana Music Awards that what you’re doing (the ban), let it go on. Because it’ll send a signal to the up and coming artistes that that act is not good.
“They’re not bigger than the industry. No matter how big you become as an artiste, you’re not bigger than the industry. Bigger artistes have been in Ghana before.
“Everybody has his time so today if it is Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy and other people’s time reigning in Ghana if we allow them to become bigger than the industry then forget it we don’t have an industry. principles must stand” he reiterated.
