Every time Kuami Eugene releases a new song, it raises issues.
It’s either he likes to be tagged as someone who steals lyrics or he likes to take inspiration from everywhere possible.
But whatever is true in his case, he somehow manages to find himself in the controversy of using similar phrases or lines or even rhythms of other artistes’ songs.
He started 2020 with a new song titled ‘Turn Up’ and as usual, words like Harry Song’s “even your boo get a boo”, Davido’s “Aye” and some other rhythms and words could be heard in it.
Just before another uproar starts, he defends it by saying it’s language and there should be no limit to what one is allowed to speak.
Speaking to MzGee of TV3 in an interview, she tried to point out the similar lyrics from the song and Eugene replied by saying she noticed all that because of what her focus was when she listened to the song.
When she mentioned the ‘Aye’, using instances where she could have copied other journalists, he replied, “It doesn’t have a single feel of Davido. The key is high, Davido never sings that high. It’s just not Davido.”
And when she pointed out the other similar words in the song, he said, “If you say words that people say you can’t say them again in life then there’ll be limited words to even say in life cos whatever you say in what you put out there on TV, has been said before”
“It’s language. You can’t limit somebody as to what extent he should speak a particular language”
