Dancehall act, Samini has expressed joy at the decriminalization of cannabis for health and industrial use.
He said this will now stop the constant embarrassment ‘rasta men’ or dreadlocks wearing folks face at the police barriers in town.
He added that it will also give them enough time to focus on fighting other crimes.
On Friday evening, parliament passed the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2019 to decriminalize the use of cannabis for health and industrial use.
After word got out that the use of cannabis for health and industrial use has been decriminalize, social media rejoiced .
Samini also joined in by making series of tweets to share his opinion on the long awaited ‘good news’.
In one of the tweets, he said: “HighGrade farms to the world. #akyesaaaaaaaaaa 😂😂😂💨💨💨… we are about to go commercial 💪🏾😁.. big up all who stood in the fore front to make this a reality. #Agriculture is the future indeed… let’s go guys… 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🇬🇭”
In another tweet, he noted that the police force can now channel their energy to fighting other crimes instead of “embarrassing search of any and every rasta man because he’s presumed that he’s a smoker and for that matter a criminal”
“Now the police can concentrate on other #realcrimes and leave the Rastaman in peace … the random and embarrassing search of any and every Rasta man because it’s presumed that he’s a smoker and for that matter a criminal is finally a thing of the past ? Wooow. I have stories” he tweeted
According to citinewsroom.com, Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) however, will still have the mandate to control and eliminate the trafficking of prohibited narcotic drugs to ensure public safety.
The new law also empowers the Minister for Interior to grant licences for the cultivation of cannabis of not more than 0.3 percent THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that gives the users a high sensation, for industrial and medicinal purposes.
Punishment for the cannabis-related offences has also been stiffened, according to a source on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament.
