Politician Sam Dzata George has said the COVID-19 virtual concert which airs today is clearly a case of misplaced priority.
According to him, the Ministry of Communications should rather “release emergency spectrum to the Telcos to handle the pressure and demand for data and for an announcement of the immediate suspension of the 50% increase in CST” and not concentrate on organising a virtual concert in this times.
“The songs would drive away from the virus when Shatta screams pah pah pah! We are having fanfare to launch a tracking app almost 3 weeks after lockdown and over a month after it became clear we were in the firing line of the pandemic. We have a very serious-minded government and appointees in place,” he sarcastically added.
He shared this to Facebook with posters of the artistes billed for the concert who include Shatta Wale, Fancy Gadam, Diana Asamoah, Kuami Eugene, Great Ampong, among others.
The virtual concert put together by the Ministry of Communications is a side attraction to the launch of a new App that will help in contact tracing people who have come into contact with COVID-19 positive individuals.
It was aired on Citi TV, UTV, Joy Prime, Joy News, GTV, TV3, GhOne TV, YouTube and Facebook Live between 4 pm and 7 pm.
The user friendly and free to download mobile software application which will be available for Android and iOS devices after its launch is originally intended for productivity assistance which will supplement the state’s efforts in the fight against the pandemic.
According to the experts, the software will trace anyone who has come into contact with persons carrying the COVID -19 virus.
Persons will also be trained by the experts to be able to find their way around the App and give an insight on who can use it
The host of Peace FM’s morning show, Kwami Sefa-Kayi will be the emcee for the concert.
