Actress Efia Odo believes the suspension of the lockdown despite the high number of confirmed cases smacks of a political move.
The lockdown which was one of the measures adopted to curb the spread of coronavirus was instituted in Accra, Kumasi, and Kasoa effective March 30, 2020.
It was initially a two-week lockdown but the president in his fifth address to the nation extended it by a week to allow for extensive contact tracing and testing of the people.
In the president’s address on April 19, 2020, he lifted the lockdown but social gatherings are still banned, borders are closed for two more weeks and people have been advised to stay at home and use a mask if there is the need to step out.
Although people have been complaining about hunger and discomfort of staying indoors for weeks, they are not in agreement with the president’s order especially after the president announced the number of confirmed cases has risen to 1042.
The actress has been reacting to the directive in a series of tweets.
In one of the tweets, she said “Nana a shocki me” while she also advised people to take care of themselves.
In another, she noted, “Ban being lifted after 1000+ cases reported. Something smells fishy or shall I say there’s a political agenda aroma around this lift.”
