Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson has said many actors are struggling at home during this time of the coronavirus pandemic because they do not get royalties from movies they make.
She said because there are no royalties, no job means no money even if the actor had already shot a big movie.
In a series of tweets, she noted that the industry was already struggling before the pandemic and one can only hope to survive.
“The entertainment industry without the necessary structures has already been hanging on by a thread; coupled with #COVID19 we can only hope to survive this. So before you demand so much from us, know that there are many giving all they have to you, and struggling at home,” she said.
“Some honest conversations just need to be had, but we’re a people too embarrassed by our struggles we’d rather pretend everything is good. A lot of entertainers, not just in Ghana, will be going through it and WILL need help themselves,” she added.
Actors just like other popular figures are known for living ‘good life’ or what could be called “so lavishly” but Lydia explains, “by virtue of their brand they also get a lot of things for free or on discount. And this is a great perk, however, your livelihood can’t depend on discounts and favours.”
She also said, before criticizing the movie industry, “know that so many people are practically walking on needles to bring you the little they do.”

Let me break it down for you.
For many actors, they don’t get royalties from the movies they make; so if they received ¢1000 for a movie that made ¢1M it’s all they’re walking away with.
So no job = no money even if you have a HIT movie trending.
