Ghanaian artiste, Samini has added his voice to the ongoing conversation of creatives not getting royalties from their arts.
There have been instances where aged creatives in Ghana have resorted to begging for alms when they get incapacitated and the call for measures to be put in place to check this happening continues to come up every now and then.
According to the ‘My Own’ hitmaker, it is time for “young minds” to make the situation right.
Addressing the issue in a video posted to his Facebook page, Samini noted that the discussion has been going on for long adding that” this is the time that everybody that is a creative person needs to take advantage of the situation because these are digital times and these are times that things are meant to be done easier.”
“It’s long overdue that Africa and Ghana for that matter look into protecting intellectual property and making sure that creators and creative people get what they deserve, what is due them so that the family and generations after them would come and benefit from the creatives and the creative material that their forefathers did.
“It’s sad when you’re a Ghanaian artiste producing and making music out of Ghana because after everything you do the possibility that you’re not gonna get any sort of royalties from it is there and it’s real and this is what we’re looking at stopping,” he said.
The REVOLUTION is getting started and there will be no hiding place for incompetent leadership. Big up the legendary @samini_dagaati for adding his voice to the movement for CHANGE✊🏾✊🏾. @ghmusicalliance @AbeikuSantana @shattawalegh @DBLACKGH @ReggieRockstone @ameyaw112 @r2bees pic.twitter.com/AncoGCcouS
