Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale has stated that the one problem with the reggae/ dancehall fraternity is that all the artiste has made singing in patois a priority instead of making success their goal.
According to him, the artistes have become too proud due to singing patois and that they do not want to listen and learn.
He said this in an interview on Hitz FM adding that he is doing what will fetch him money.
“One problem we have in our industry (the reggae/dancehall industry) is that everybody wants to speak patois…that patois patois thing has given them too much pride. Some of them have not even seen Kotoka but when you’re talking to them, they feel they know too much and me I don’t feel I know too much. I want to still learn.”
“Do something to get money and spend first then we can do something,’ he said.
He said the artistes in Ghana do not think business which is why they just record any kind of song.
“This is business. If you want to make money from music, there’s a way to do it. We’re in Ghana, what can you do? What kind of songs can you do to make people love you? That’s what I’m doing. You can’t tell me I’m not a reggae artiste,” he stated.
He noted that “they don’t really see that talent without business is nothing. You can have the talent; you can have the voice and everything but if you don’t think business, there is no way you can move your career the way you want to move it.”
Meanwhile, he said, “I really want to build our world in terms of the reggae dancehall community so if they really want to let us come together and help, I’m ever ready to help but they should try and learn how to listen.”
