All you need to know about the Kumericanz

Kumericanz have been in the system for some time now but they just won people’s attention. Here is a list of things you did not know about the movement.

The name ‘Kumerica’ as we all know now is Kumasi and America put together.

However, the two people who coined the name are Blaq Foreigner and Armani Sosa, both belong to the movement.

“The name Kumerica, that name came from two people; Blaq Foreigner and Armani Sosa. They came up with the name Kumerica,” they revealed.

They started by releasing a song titled ‘Akatafuor’ to portray the culture of the people in Kumasi.

“The trend that started on social media was because we had a song which was titled ‘Akatafuor’ and Akatafuor is basically a lifestyle in Kumasi that we are trying to shine a light on so it’s about our mannerism. So, we’re putting pictures and videos of indigenous people in Kumasi who are like that,” he told Ghanaweekend.com

They have their own genre called ‘Asakaa Music’.

“We have a genre that brought this whole movement together which is Asakaa Music. So, we have a lot of songs…That is what we’re trying to get people aware of…It is drill music in Ghana. We’re branding it with a new name. We add our jargons: the asakaa sound is just a projection of how the indigenous people of Kumasi live,” they said.

They are not a group. It’s a whole movement.

“It’s a whole team. It’s a movement. We have a record label (Life Living Records) backing all this. We are a team working with a lot of artistes in Kumasi,” they disclosed.

They have an album they started promoting since last year.

“We even have an album we have been promoting since last year which is called ‘Straight Up from Kumerica,” they indicated.
