This year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is scheduled for this weekend yet coronavirus will not allow for large crowds.
Tickets have been given out to guests who will be at the weekend-long event. The nominees will be present as well as a few people but it won’t be the same as a corona free VGMA.
Last year, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards came to an abrupt end because Shatta Wale decided to go and “congratulate” Stonebwoy while he was on stage taking his dancehall artiste of the year award.
The event ended without the artiste of the year but we sure had our red carpet moment. This year, the music festival is a whole weekend long, starting today to Sunday.
Here is a list of things that make VGMA nights:
“Who are you wearing?” : The red carpet is not a red carpet without these words. The words are overused, some people say but it is just not a complete show without those words that get celebrities turning around. Those words also get celebrities fumbling. Some of them don’t remember the names of their stylists. Others just look confused- No, they are just there to show their expensive outfit. Who cares where they picked it? But seriously tho, it not complete without that question.
King Promise’s caterpillar shoes/ sneakers: Gregory Bortey Newman popularly known as King Promise does not have to try too much to make headlines. If he does not go home with any award, he still trends on social media because of his footwear. The guy just loves shoes that look bigger than him but he rocks them nicely.
Akwapem Poloo’s drama: She claims she would now do everything possible to trend on positivity- amen to that. But a VGMA without her touch is just not complete. Trust her to appear on the carpet in a skimpy dress or gown that makes her naked. Three years since she became popular, she makes headlines every time she goes to an event. Last year, the red carpet host, Giovanni had to turn his back amidst her drama on the red carpet.
All the feathers and scary dresses: What is a red carpet without outfits that leave us scarred for at least the whole year until the next year’s looks rip the bandage and it starts all over again. Some people deliberately put together anything to trend. Others just get it wrong sometimes.
Elikem Kumordji’s measuring tape: Elikem forgets the measuring tape sometimes. No, the look cannot be complete without his tape. He has to make an appearance this weekend to bless the year with his tape.
What did I miss? Tell us what you feel makes the VGMA nights.
