Ghanaian musicians are not happy with the operations of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), a reason they have, for the past few days been very critical of them.
This comes after an interaction between officials of GHAMRO and some music stakeholders at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ National Music Summit held on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
During the intellectual property session, a question that was asked by one of the participants caused an uproar. The video of the banter surfaced on social media and raised more questions about how effective GHAMRO has been and the way forward.
Responding to the incident, dancehall artiste Stonebwoy wrote on Twitter:
“Following the national Music Summit Yesterday @Ghamro_official keeps repeating the same excuses.
We are tired! Uncle Rex and uncle Abraham. Our back is against the wall o.. and As For The State of #Musigha dier SAD Kwraaah!!”

Meanwhile, the Chairman of GHAMRO, Rex Omar, has said that their biggest challenges in collecting and distributing royalties are non-payment of the levies by radio and television stations, low blank levy in-flow, and the high cost of a tracking system.
