Veteran filmmaker, Kwaw Ansah, has asked players of the film industry in Ghana, to rally their support behind the activities of the National Film Authority.
He made this call at the first major stakeholder engagement of the National Film Authority with film practitioners and groups to update the sector on the NFA’s activities so far and to discuss matters of interest to the sector.
The programme was held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the Silverbird Cinema at Accra Mall.
“I do hope that practitioners of the [movie] industry will support the steps being taken. Because nothing ventured, nothing gained. We have to put certain structures in place. Some will work, some will not work but our support will encourage them to go,” he said.
“As we are talking now I wanna believe that there are certain groups who are trying to bring down the efforts of these young ones, Kwaw Ansah added.
He said things that if that happens we will build a very strong film industry.
He says the industry since 1948 has been strong and vibrant. The first film school in west africa was set up in Ghana [then Gold Coast]
The 80-year-old filmmaker also advised Ghanaians to cherish their movies and make sure the local content is high.
