Ghanaian afro-pop music group, R2Bees, say they are proud of their over a decade of success as professional musicians and are therefore unconcerned about not being nominated for industry awards.
Speaking to Ghana Weekend, Omar Sterling aka Paedae, said, the emphasis on awards promotes unneeded competition and makes the majority of artists feel neglected.
He added that, the two, born and raised in a poor neighbourhood in Tema, are content and happy with their achievements and that they do not care so much about other industry recognitions.
“We had a tough upbringing, so we appreciate what we have today; to be able to be paid the amount of money we get from live shows, endorsements, and other shows,….”
He added that the group does not value or see the essence of focusing on awards.
“We do not see an award as a big deal, so if we don’t go to the VGMAs, our friends take our plagues and keep them,” he added.
Paedae said the group is more concerned about making a greater impact for the benefit of society and contributing to positive global causes such as combating hunger.
