Rapper Medikal has added his voice to the call on the government to invest in the arts and entertainment industry.
“The government should have a budget for Entertainers (Musicians, Comedians, Actors/Actresses) every year,” he wrote on Twitter.
This comes after Wendy Shay earlier tweeted that funds allocated for the running of football in Ghana must rather be invested in the music industry.
“I think GFA should invest the money into Ghana Music …. anaa mose ma High?” she wrote.
Her suggestion comes on the back of the elimination of the Black Stars, at the African Cup of Nations, which is ongoing in Cameroon.
Ghana could not win a single match at the group stage of the competition, in spite of the over 2-million-dollar budget the GFA received for the tournament.
About 7 months ago, Shatta Wale also pleaded with the government to allocate 10% of the money it spends on sports, for the music industry.
Many people have said that if the government and corporate bodies invest in the arts, Ghana’s economy will receive a massive boost.
