Samini, is in the news again, not for his music this time around, but for his activities on the campus of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) where he is currently studying for a degree.
The veteran musician, has shared a recent video of how he is faring on campus via his TikTok page. The video has also triggered some reactions from the public about the enforcement of norms considered unnecessary in modern university education.
The “Rastafarian” musician, in his video, detailed how he was made to change his clothes for a long sleeve shirt with a tie because he was informed that he would not be allowed to present his work while wearing a t-shirt.
According to him, he had to call one of his friends (called IGP) to bring him the “accepted” costume with a motorbike.
In another video, the artist could be seen dressing in the lecture room while his colleagues watched him lace his shoes.
Even though the musician does not seem disturbed about what happened on campus, there are some who still believe that Ghanaian educational institutions must adopt progressive measures and become more tolerant by prioritizing intellectual ability over outward appearances, as it is the case in some of the world’s top institutions and forums.
Some top business executives in the world, such as world’ wealthiest man Jeff Bozos, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and even Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, still make presentations in simple clothes.
In 2019, Samini made headlines after he accused the authorities of Ebenezer Senior High School in Accra of discriminating against him because of his appearance.
According to him, the head teacher of the institution prevented him from interacting with students when he visited the campus as part of a school tour.
