We’re fast killing our hit songs with social media trends – Music producer Oteng

Music producer Wei Ye Oteng has expressed worry over the short lifespan of songs in recent times.

In a Facebook post, Oteng noted that because of social media promo, most songs don’t last.

He specifically stated that our hit songs don’t last because the moment another song comes with its dance craze, it submerges the hype from the song.

The music producer added that he was expecting Kelvynboys’s ‘Down Flat’ and ‘Black Sherif’s ‘Kwaku the Traveller’ to stay in the space for a longer time, but they got missing when Kizz Daniel released his ‘Buga’ song.

A few weeks ago, media personality NY DJ also made the same observation in a tweet.

It will fade after 2 or 3 months (at most). Pay attention to all the TikTok blown songs

Social media has been a blessing to the music industry in terms of promotion. Musicians and their music executives have deployed various strategies on social media to stay relevant and reach their target audience.

But could this have its demerits?

See Oteng’s Facebook post below:

We Fast Killing Our Hits?

Pushing songs to trends by making all these moves X dance for it to be a hit is killing our songs faster than allowing it organically grow to gradually to become hit.

Cox the moment another person’s moves overtake yours, no matter how great your song is, trust me your off the table. And it’s really worrying.

I was expecting much higher grounds for songs like DOWN FLAT, KTT etc by now to be uncontrollable but derr norrr some BUGA moves tell am sey make e’shift, guys u can’t beat the organic radio and TV promo with tiktok oooh, it’s really great technology is here to stay, but trust me we still need to reach the grounds and stop acting all made it when dancegod and some few others teach some girls move to start trending on our artist behalf, (Boobs X Bombom generation).

It’ s doing more harm than good, cox every now and then musicians are tempted to come with something new when their jams are out of trends, let’s wake up be4 creativity becomes a competition. God’s Day.
