Nollywood actress Ini Edo has opened up about her decision to get married and her experience with surrogacy.
Edo, who was married to American-based businessman Philip Ehiagwina from 2008 to 2013, said she regretted getting married because she felt it was not the right decision for her.
“I regretted my decision to get married because it wasn’t just the right move to make,” she said in an interview with popular media personality Chude Jideonwo. “I felt pressured to get married by my family and friends, and I didn’t really want to do it.”
Edo said she is now happy to be a single mother, and she chose to welcome her baby via surrogacy after having multiple miscarriages.
“I chose surrogacy because I had couples of miscarriages,” she said. “And I just got tired of trying. I don’t have a husband. So, I’m like, I want a child for myself whether I have a husband or not. So, what other options would I have? And I wanted it to be my child. My eggs. Thankfully, my eggs are good. So I did that.”
Edo welcomed her first child, a girl, in 2021. She said she is grateful to be a mother, and she is excited to watch her daughter grow up.
“I’m so happy to be a mother,” she said. “It’s the best feeling in the world. I’m so excited to watch my daughter grow up and learn new things.”
