Ghanaian rapper Edem has attributed the lack of global success in Ghanaian music to the lack of money for promotion and investment.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Edem said the Ghana music industry lacks the resources and investors to propel it to greater heights.
“Our industry lacks money. For you to rule you need to be exposed. It’s resources we need, and it’s the same preventing Togolese artists from crossing into Ghana,” he bemoaned.
Edem also said that certain entertainment awards that promote Ghanaian music and Ghanaian artists have been suspended due to a lack of funds.
“It’s the same resources that are making it hard for Bass Awards, Ghana meets Naija and 4syte Music Awards not to happen,” he added.
Edem’s comments come at a time when Ghanaian music is enjoying a resurgence, with artists like Shatta Wale, King Promise, Stonebwoy, and Black Sherif gaining international recognition.
However, the industry still faces a number of challenges, including piracy, poor infrastructure, and a lack of access to international markets.
If Ghana music is to truly go global, it will need more investment and support from both the public and private sectors.
