Multiple award-winning artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has welcomed the newly established Grammy category, “Best African Music Performance,” attributing it to divine timing.

Davido expressed his sentiments during a recent interview with France 24 when questioned about the timeliness of introducing an African music category at the Grammys.

In response to the host’s query about whether the addition of the category was late or right on time, Davido emphasized the long-standing dominance of African music and culture, which is now gaining global recognition.

Davido stated, “God’s timing is the best. African music has been dominant for years. So, if you’re asking me if we should have received recognition earlier, yeah. But things take time. As I said, God’s timing is the best.”

Expressing his joy about the new Grammy category, Davido highlighted its significance not only for himself but also for his fellow nominees.

He emphasized the beauty of artists from Africa having the opportunity to create music that can win a Grammy, describing it as “amazing to see.”
