The announcement of nominees for various categories of the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards has attracted uproar among some dissatisfied musicians.

The announcement which took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Thursday, March 28, 2024, has left the dissatisfied musicians calling for a revision of the lists under the various categories.

Artistes such as Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy have been nominated for the prestigious ‘Artiste Of The Year’ award.

As the names rolled out, a chorus of discontent arose from the music fraternity, with voices like Amerado, Kweku Smoke, and Jay Bhad singing a different tune regarding their inability to earn nominations with their respective hit songs.

Amerado, often called the Lyrical Maestro, expressed his dismay at the absence of his viral anthem, “Kwaku Ananse,” from earning a nomination.

Despite its omnipresence, even gracing the recent Independence Day celebrations, Amerado found himself left out in the cold.

Jay Bhad also took to social media to question the snubbing of his chart-topper, “Odo.”

With a heart full of exceptional tunes and a mind perplexed by the oversight, he queried, “Not even a single nomination for ‘Odo’? How can we stand for the truth once and for all?” Indeed, “Odo” had set the airwaves on fire, its rhythm echoing in every corner of the nation.

And let’s not forget Kweku Smoke, the rap virtuoso, who found himself scratching his head over the absence of his hip-hop masterpiece, “Hold Me Tight,” from the Best Rap Performance category.

From the depths of his Playman album, released in 2023, “Hold Me Tight” had emerged as a beacon of hip-hop excellence, yet it seemed to have been lost in the shuffle of nominations. Sarcastically, he questioned, ” What Hold tight do them”?

Amidst the uproar, Afrobeat prodigy Kelvyn Boy has thrown his weight behind his fellow artistes, adding a fiery crescendo to the chorus of discontent.

The singer-songwriter, no stranger to the sting of snubbed nominations in previous years, took to the digital stage to churn out his grievances.

In a bold declaration on social media, Kelvyn Boy pointed fingers squarely at the organisers, proclaiming, “Charterhouse dey downplay the hard work of artistes in this country. Fire the board of old folks! It’s a new generation and a new era now. Keep up.”

With these words, he didn’t just call out the organisers; he ignited a flame of rebellion, demanding recognition for the vibrant voices of the new wave.

Telecel Ghana has been revealed as the headline sponsor for this year’s ceremony which is scheduled for June 1.

Artistes such as Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy have been nominated for the prestigious ‘Artiste Of The Year’ award.

It is less than a day since the nominees for this year’s Awards schemed were released and some industry players are predicting more controversies as the weeks roll by.
