A US court has approved a request for the release of Mona Faiz Montrage’s passport to facilitate her deportation to Ghana following the completion of her prison sentence.
Montrage, widely known as Hajia 4Reall, is serving a 12-month sentence at the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia after pleading guilty to conspiracy to receive stolen money.
Her legal team, Fast Law, submitted the request on 1 November 2024, arguing that the document was necessary to begin self-deportation proceedings. Court records indicate that prosecutors did not oppose the application.
US District Judge J. Paul Oetken has now ruled in favour of the request, directing that the passport be handed over to her lawyers.
Legal Background
The Ghanaian influencer was sentenced on 28 June 2024, having admitted to her role in a scheme that defrauded individuals and businesses in the United States between 2013 and 2019.
In addition to her prison term, the 32-year-old was ordered to forfeit $216,475 and pay $1,387,458 in restitution. She will also serve three years under supervised release.
The court ruling clears the way for Montrage’s return to Ghana upon completing her sentence.
