President John Dramani Mahama has stated that his government’s flagship Black Star Experience will be used as a means to position Ghana as a leading destination for the global African diaspora.
In his State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, President Mahama outlined the ambitious programme, stating that it would serve as a key strategy to market Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, artistic creativity, and historical significance to the world.
The President added that the initiative would go beyond tourism, fostering deeper connections between Ghana and the global African community while also contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth through culture, arts, and heritage promotion.
“Our flagship initiative, the Black Star Experience aims to establish Ghana as the gateway to Africa for the global diaspora featuring thoughtfully curated cultural and creative arts experience and our aim is to position the Black Star Experience as a uniquely Ghana tourism brand.
“The Pan African Month will be part of the Black Star Experience and include street carnivals, a film week, a fashion festival, a food fair, theoretical and drama performances, concert party competitions, and monthly domestic tourism destinations.”
The Black Star Experience is a comprehensive cultural and tourism initiative designed to elevate Ghana as the premier destination for African heritage, tourism, and creative arts.
It builds upon the success of initiatives like the Year of Return (2019) and the Beyond the Return campaign, which attracted thousands of people of African descent from across the world to Ghana.
