Renowned Ghanaian music group Alabaster Box has warned Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, of potential legal action over allegations of copyright infringement involving his song “Welcome to Africa.”

Represented by Sustineri Attorneys, the group has accused Medikal of unlawfully sampling their hit track “Akwaaba” without obtaining proper authorization.

In a formal letter addressed to Medikal, Alabaster Box asserts that the initial seconds of his song bear a strong resemblance to their copyrighted work. They have stated that Medikal’s actions have resulted in the creation of a derivative composition that infringes on their exclusive rights.

The group also claims that Medikal’s familiarity with their work points to intentional infringement.

According to the notice, “Welcome to Africa” has been actively promoted on various platforms, including Medikal’s verified YouTube channel, where the track has garnered over 72,000 views. Alabaster Box maintains that this level of promotion unjustly leverages their intellectual property for financial benefit.

Alabaster Box has demanded the immediate removal of the song from all platforms, the halt of its marketing and public performance, and the provision of all related financial accounts and agreements.

The group has indicated that failure to comply will prompt legal measures, which may include a court injunction, destruction of the song, and claims for compensation.

Alabaster Box has reaffirmed its dedication to protecting its intellectual property and maintaining its long-standing reputation in the music industry.
