Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artiste Epixode born Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo says he has never smoked or consumed alcohol, choosing a lifestyle that breaks away from common stereotypes in the music genre.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM in Accra, the “Avatar” singer said, “I haven’t dunk anything alcoholic before or smoked anything smokable before.”
Epixode credits his decision to his upbringing and values instilled by his family. Despite growing up near a ghetto, he was raised in a disciplined environment with a mother who toured and a father who worked as a banker.
“I come from a good home. I was exposed to real life at a young age,” he said, adding that his clean lifestyle was a deliberate way to set himself apart.
He also challenged the belief that artists need drugs or alcohol to create meaningful reggae music, saying powerful lyrics don’t require intoxication.
