‘You didn’t raise your daughter well’ — Afia Schwarzenegger blasts late Yaa Baby’s mother

Media personality Afia Schwarzenegger has ignited controversy after she publicly blamed the mother of the late Yaa Baby, also known as Phillipa, for failing to raise her daughter properly.

The comments came amid widespread shock and grief over the tragic death of the young girl, whose passing has deeply unsettled many Ghanaians.

Yaa Baby gained notoriety after a viral video showed her brandishing a firearm—the same weapon reportedly involved in her death.

While investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing, Afia Schwarzenegger has taken to social media to express her harsh criticism of parenting practices, especially among women in the Ashanti Region.

Addressing the victim’s mother directly, Afia stated bluntly, “You didn’t raise your daughter well,” accusing her and others of neglecting their parental responsibilities.

She further generalised, saying, “Ashanti women, especially the poor ones, are bad mothers. They allow their children to do whatever they want and encourage reckless behaviour by turning a blind eye.”

Afia, who currently lives in the United States, explained that her perception of poor parenting in Kumasi influenced her decision never to work there, fearing for the wellbeing of her own children.

“I have never worked in Kumasi because I didn’t want my children to become bad kids,” she added.

Despite the physical distance, Afia said she maintains strict control over her sons living in Ghana, insisting they obey her instructions without question.

She contrasted her discipline with what she described as the lax parenting that led to tragedies like Yaa Baby’s.

“If I call my boys and tell them to go to bed, they do it without asking questions,” she said.

Using the viral video of Yaa Baby holding a gun as a cautionary example, Afia warned, “This is what happens when you don’t keep an eagle eye on your children.”
