Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has sparked renewed political interest after making a bold declaration during his 65th birthday celebration held in Accra on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
In a video sighted by Ghana Weekend, the outspoken politician addressed a jubilant gathering at the all-white party, which drew prominent figures, including senior executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
His remarks come at a time when the NPP is grappling with internal divisions following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
“I thank you all. You have honoured me and I know that the desire in your hearts for me to lead this nation will be fulfilled, because what God has destined cannot be overturned,” Agyapong stated, drawing cheers from the crowd. “If you believe in me, then believe that I can change Ghana for the better,” he added.
His comments are being interpreted as a strong hint at a comeback bid for the NPP’s presidential ticket, with the party scheduled to hold early primaries on January 31, 2026.
Kennedy Agyapong, known for his fearless rhetoric and anti-corruption stance, had previously contested in the party’s presidential primaries but lost to former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. His latest remarks have already begun to stir political discourse as the NPP looks to reorganise and rebuild ahead of the 2028 elections.
