Popular Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, widely known as Mzbel, has recalled a painful encounter she had with the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
In a video sighted by GhanaWeekend on Monday October 27, following the passing of the former First Lady, Mzbel said the incident left a lasting emotional impact on her.
According to her, during the heat of the 2016 political campaign, she made several public statements without fully understanding the complexities of political communication. She believes those comments may have upset Mrs. Rawlings.
Recounting the incident, Mzbel said she once attended a birthday celebration for the late former President, Jerry John Rawlings, at the National Theatre, where she was eager to take a photograph with him. However, her warm gesture was abruptly interrupted.
“I saw Papa J and I was so excited. I went to embrace him for a photograph and she pushed me away. It was very embarrassing… the biggest yawa of my life,” she narrated.
She added that she later learned the former First Lady found her public remarks “too much” and “not making sense,” which may have influenced her reaction.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away at the Ridge Hospital in Accra on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Her death has drawn tributes from across the nation, honouring her as a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and a towering political figure in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
