A fertility clinic in Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region has recorded a rare medical milestone with the successful delivery of quadruplets through intrauterine insemination (IUI), a procedure specialists describe as highly uncommon in assisted reproductive care.
The four babies two boys and two girls, were delivered by a 30year old surrogate mother at The Walking Egg Medical and Fertility Centre.
In a video sighted by GhanaWeekend on his Facebook page on January 13,2026, the Chief Executive Officer of the centre, Dr Nana Yaw Osei, described the delivery as historic, noting that while multiple births have occurred through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) in Ghana, quadruplets resulting from IUI are virtually unheard of.
“I’m glad to inform you that The Walking Egg Medical and Fertility Centre has delivered quadruplets today, that’s four babies from one pregnancy. We’ve made history; we can call it a record”.
“In Ghana, we know many children have been born through IVF, and we’ve had quadruplets from IVF. But I am yet to find any recorded incident of quadruplets from IUI,” Dr Osei stated.
Dr Osei added that the case may be unprecedented not only in Ghana but possibly worldwide, inviting colleagues and experts to share any similar documented cases.
“If you know of any quadruplets from IUI, whether in Ghana or anywhere in the world, let me know, because we believe we’ve made history,” he said.
According to him, the babies were delivered on January 13, 2026, marking what the centre considers a major breakthrough in assisted reproductive treatment. He confirmed that the newborns include “two beautiful girls and two wonderful boys.”
The centre believes the successful delivery highlights the growing potential of fertility care in Ghana and offers renewed hope to couples facing infertility challenges.
