Moses Desire Kouyo has been elected the first Student Representative Council (SRC) President of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), following elections held across the institution’s three campuses on January 16, 2025.
Kouyo, a student of the University of Media, Arts and Communication–Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ), was declared winner on the evening of Friday, January 16, at the South Legon campus of UniMAC-IJ after securing 54 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

The historic election marks the first SRC leadership contest since the merger of the three institutions that now form UniMAC: UniMAC–Institute of Journalism (IJ), UniMAC–Institute of Languages (IL), and UniMAC–Institute of Film and Television (IFT).
Kouyo contested the presidency alongside three other candidates — Bless Tawiah from UniMAC-IFT, John Anitei, and Zain Sulleyman, both from UniMAC-IJ. Polling took place at various campuses, including Osu, East Cantonments, Adabraka, East Legon, and Kumasi.
According to the final results, Kouyo emerged with a commanding lead, winning a total of 558 votes from polling stations A and B combined. John Anitei placed second with 231 votes, followed by Bless Tawiah with 143 votes, while Zain Sulleyman garnered 107 votes.
A known student leader and advocate, Moses Desire Kouyo has been actively involved in student affairs since his first year. He has played key roles in assisting students with academic work, helping to resolve issues related to results and student portals, and guiding freshers through institutional processes. Many students describe him as a dependable bridge between the student body and school authorities.
During his campaign, Kouyo outlined a manifesto focused on inclusivity and academic support. His key promises include advocating for modernised learning spaces, establishing a grade rectification committee, and supporting students facing challenges with retakes and resits, while ensuring that no student is left behind.
As the first SRC President of the unified UniMAC, expectations are high for Kouyo to set a strong foundation for student leadership across the three institutes. Many students and stakeholders will be watching closely as he begins his tenure, hopeful that he will deliver on his promises and leave a lasting legacy within the institution.
