Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has said he cannot publicly reconcile with fellow artiste Shatta Wale following false claims Shatta Wale made about him after the death of his mother—a claim Stonebwoy insists is untrue.
Speaking in an interview on Angel TV on Wednesday, March 25, Stonebwoy stressed that while competition in the music industry can be playful, there are limits that must be respected.
“It’s sometimes justified that it’s a game… but some of us are from good homes, and we’ve been trained well to the extent that we know how to speak and when to speak,” he said. “There are certain words you don’t utter when you want to market something… else it’ll be demeaning.”
Stonebwoy said that seeing Shatta Wale and being expected to smile publicly after the hurtful statements is impossible.
“Since that happened and all of a sudden I’m seen smiling with this same person who said ill stuff about me when my mum died, which wasn’t even true, my mum’s ghost will even kill me,” he added.
He emphasised that professionalism and respect are key, especially for artistes representing Ghanaian music on a global stage.
“If it is music we want to do to promote Ghana globally, there are good and proper ways to market it. Certain utterances can’t be accepted as a way of marketing,” Stonebwoy noted.
The tension between the two artistes dates back to Shatta Wale’s controversial statements that Stonebwoy killed his own mother for fame.
The artiste’s comments highlight that while Ghana’s dancehall scene is competitive, personal attacks over sensitive matters, such as family, are unacceptable even in the midst of rivalry.
