Rapper Okyeame Kwame has expressed strong confidence in his ability to win Artiste of the Year again at the TGMAs, insisting that the feat is well within reach.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Monday, April 13, the award-winning musician responded emphatically when asked about his chances of reclaiming the top honour.
“Oh, definitely. Definitely. No doubt. It’s impossible that it won’t happen again,” he said confidently.
According to him, winning the prestigious award is not as difficult as it may seem, provided an artiste executes a clear plan and produces hit songs within the year.
“It’s not difficult to win Artiste of the Year. If I’m able to do all the things that I say I’m doing in a year and I get three big hits, I am Artiste of the Year. It is that simple,” he explained.
Okyeame Kwame further highlighted his academic background as a key advantage, noting that his knowledge in marketing and public relations gives him an edge in positioning himself effectively in the industry.
“I have an MPhil in Public Relations. I have a Master’s in Marketing Strategy. I’m a co-opted member of the Chartered Marketing Institute in the UK. I know marketing and I know PR. I can map out my stakeholders to the point that people see what I’m doing,” he stated.
He added that while strategy and visibility are within his control, the ultimate determinant lies with music consumers.
“The only thing I don’t have control over is the three or four big hits. That one, I’ll leave that to the audience. If the audience likes three of my songs, I’ll be Artiste of the Year,” he concluded.
Okyeame Kwame is no stranger to the top prize, having previously won Artiste of the Year in 2009 when the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, now known as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, recognised him for his outstanding impact on the music scene.
