Ghanaian rapper and artivist Okyeame Kwame has shared his personal commitment to contributing to Ghana’s development through his craft, emphasising patriotism and truth-telling as key pillars of his approach.
Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV on Tuesday, April 7, the musician responded to a question about what he, as an individual, can do to help develop the country.
According to him, one of his main contributions is creating patriotic music that inspires citizens and fosters a sense of national identity.
“I think I will make patriotic music—that is one,” he said.
Okyeame Kwame also noted that he intends to use his art as a tool to speak the truth about societal issues, leveraging his influence to drive awareness and change.
“Also, I will be able to use the art to tell the truth,” he added.
Referencing the Renaissance period, he explained how artistes in Europe contributed to societal progress by boldly addressing issues through their work.
“When European artistes decided to paint the truth, sing the truth, and poets wrote about the rot of society, it brought enlightenment,” he explained.
He stressed that starting from this point, that is, using his platform to communicate truth and promote patriotism is central to his role as an artiste.
“I think that is the first place that I should start from because that is where my constituency is,” he noted.
His comments highlight his personal resolve to go beyond entertainment and use his influence as a creative to support national development.
