Nigerian actress Blessing Onwukwe, widely recognised for her role as “Mama Monica” in the viral Nollywood film Monica, has disclosed that she earned over 1 million naira for her performance in the movie’s second part.

In an interview with Yanga FM on Tuesday, May 5, the actress disclosed that although she won’t state the exact figure, her earnings for Monica 2 surpassed ₦1 million.

“Monica passed one million… it passed one million for Monica II. I don’t want to call any other amount, but it’s more than one million,” she said.

Onwukwe also shared how she landed the role, noting that it came unexpectedly after she received a call asking about her availability. After reading the script, she said she took time to deeply understand and build the character.

“I started thinking about how I was going to bring the character to life. I had to create a background story for her,” she explained.

According to her, she fully immersed herself in the role even before arriving on set, which helped her convincingly portray the controversial and manipulative “Mama Monica” character that has sparked intense reactions online.

The film Monica, starring Uche Montana, has become one of Nollywood’s biggest hits in 2026, racking up over 17 million views on FilmFlux within a month.

Its storyline highlights family struggles, particularly the experiences of a firstborn daughter, while Onwukwe’s performance continues to generate both praise and criticism for its realism.
