American-based Ghanaian model and singer, Faith Maria Porter, has opened up about how faith, gratitude and confidence helped her remain grounded while competing at the prestigious Miss Grand International competition.

Speaking in an interview on GhoneTV, Faith reflected on her journey to becoming the third runner-up at the global pageant.

According to her, competing against about 80 contestants from across the world was both exciting and intimidating, especially seeing many talented and beautiful women representing different countries and continents.

“We had contestants from all around the world and every single continent was represented. When you see such beautiful women, sometimes you have imposter syndrome and you wonder if you deserve to be there,” she said.

Faith, however, explained that her upbringing in a Christian home helped her overcome self-doubt and remain focused throughout the competition.

“My family are pastors, so I grew up in the church. My name is Faith and that’s just what I had to do — have faith,” she stated.

The Ghanaian beauty queen said she constantly reminded herself that simply representing her country on such a huge stage was already a blessing, regardless of the final outcome.

“I was very lucky to place in the top five and become third runner-up, but throughout the competition I kept telling myself that it was already a blessing just to be there,” she added.

Faith also revealed that she carried the hopes of other contestants who competed alongside her during the national Miss Grand Ghana contest, noting that many deserving women did not get the opportunity to represent the country internationally.

“There were other women I competed with for the Miss Grand Ghana title who were also amazing. I kept them in my heart and stayed prayerful throughout the competition,” she said.

According to her, removing the pressure to win helped her enjoy the experience and perform confidently on the international stage.

“I didn’t need to win. I just needed to make my family and my country proud. With that in mind, I went in with a light spirit, my head held high, feeling grateful for the opportunity,” she noted.

Miss Grand International is an annual international beauty pageant founded in 2013 by Thai television host and entrepreneur Nawat Itsaragrisil. The competition is known for promoting peace, cultural exchange and humanitarian campaigns under its slogan “Stop the War and Violence,” and has grown into one of the world’s most recognised international beauty pageants.
