Kodak Black, born Bill Kahan Kapri, has been charged with felony MDMA trafficking in Florida following a police investigation that began after gunfire was reported near a children’s safety facility in Orlando in November 2025.
Police discovered 25.34 grams of MDMA and $37,000 in cash inside a pink bag found in a green Lamborghini at the scene. Although Kodak Black was not inside the vehicle during the search, investigators claimed he watched the search and repeatedly attempted to retrieve the cash, saying it belonged to his business.
After laboratory tests confirmed the substance as MDMA in April 2026, authorities secured a warrant and the rapper surrendered at Orange County Jail on May 6. He was later released on a $75,000 bond and has pleaded not guilty while requesting a jury trial.
His lawyer, Bradford Cohen, strongly criticised the case, calling the probable cause affidavit “ridiculous” and arguing prosecutors cannot prove constructive possession since the vehicles were not registered to the rapper and he was not physically connected to the drugs.
However, prosecutors say the bag contained documents bearing Kodak Black’s name and personal items allegedly linked to him through social media photos. Authorities are expected to rely on those details, along with his claim to the cash, to argue he exercised control over the bag.
Kodak Black, who has a lengthy legal history including a 2019 federal firearms conviction later pardoned by then-President Donald Trump, now faces a first-degree felony charge that carries a possible sentence of up to 30 years in prison. No trial date has been set.
