Veteran actress Auntie Bee, best known for her role in the popular Efiewura television series, has encouraged single people not to place excessive pressure on themselves over marriage, stressing that being unmarried does not mean one has failed in life.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on Tuesday, July 14, the actress acknowledged the value of marriage and relationships but insisted that they should not define a person’s worth or happiness.
According to Auntie Bee, being married or having a life partner often earns people respect within their families and communities.
“Marriage and relationships are important. If you have a partner or you are married, it brings some kind of glory and respect to you in your community and among your families.”
She also cautioned against viewing marriage as life’s ultimate achievement, noting that people should not become depressed simply because they are single.
“Being married is not the ultimate. If you are not married or do not have a partner, it is not a reason to kill yourself or feel you have not accomplished anything.”
The actress further explained that marriage does not automatically guarantee happiness, citing the experience of a woman whose marriage reportedly fell apart shortly after the wedding.
“I know someone who got married beautifully, but in less than a week, things started going badly. I don’t even know whether she is currently mentally stable or not.”
