Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy has disclosed that his support for Manchester United was largely decided by his family, saying he had little choice in picking a football club to support.
Speaking to ESPN, the Grammy-winning artiste explained that supporting the English Premier League club is a family tradition, leaving him with no option to choose another team.
“Well, to be fair, that’s a family thing. I had no choice in the matter, if we’re being honest. I didn’t get to pick,” Burna Boy said.
According to the singer, loyalty to Manchester United is expected within his family.
“We don’t get those choices in my family. You have to be United or you find another family,” he remarked jokingly.
Burna Boy was also asked about his favourite Manchester United player at the moment, naming Kobbie Mainoo.
The singer was then asked about his relationship with former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, with whom he has been pictured on several occasions.
Burna Boy said he had not seen Pogba recently but maintained that the Frenchman remains a close friend.
“I haven’t seen him in a while still,” he said, before adding, “That’s my guy, man, I love him.”
Burna Boy’s comments highlight the strong connection between his family and Manchester United, while his mention of Mainoo and Pogba shows that his interest in the club extends beyond simply supporting the team.
