The final funeral rites have been held for the late actor Ebenezer Lartey known by many as Ataa Mensah.

The Mayor of Accra Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah had described late actor as a true legend of the Ga people.

According to him, the late actor projected Ga culture through his work and imbibed good attitudes into many who were followers of his work.

He made this known at the final funeral rite for the late actor who used the Ga language as the main medium of acting at a time most TV shows were in English.

He died on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, after being admitted at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

Ataa Mensah, born on January 12, 1928, in Accra, started his acting career in 1965, before appearing on TV from 1970.

He is one of the people who championed film making in the Ga dialect.

During the Saka Acquaye era, all the dramas and films were then in English, a situation that inspired the late Ataa Mensah to change the phase of the industry by acting in Ga.

He played the lead character in the popular Ga drama known as Showcase in Ga and aired on GTV.

Most of the scripts of the numerous dramas on GBC and some films were written by him.

The late actor, who lived at Adabraka in Accra with his wife before his demise, had appealed to the government and the management of GBC at a point; to recognize him and reward him with an estate.

Ataa Mensah was married to Ashie Lartey, who often played the role of his wife in most of his movies.

He is survived by five children, 25 grandchildren and over 30 great-grandchildren.
