Ghanaian gospel musician Enoch Blessing Acquah, known in music circles as EBA, has expressed worry about the low visibility of Ghanaian gospel musicians on the international market.
According to him, the situation is so grave to the extent that some of the big artistes in Ghana are virtually unknown in other countries.
He cited Joe Mettle as one of such musicians who is not popular in Nigeria, despite all the clout he wields in Ghana.
Speaking at a press soiree at The Praise Factory Studios – his record label and music production company – at New Town, Accra, on Friday, November 1, 2019, EBA said a research he made during one of his visits to Nigeria suggested that Nigerian youth between the ages of 15 to 30 do not know Ghana’s top and favourite gospel musician, Joe Mettle.
“The [Nigerian] youth from 15 to 30 years do not know Joe Mettle and this is as a result of branding,” he said.
EBA had intimated that the major reason most gospel musicians in Ghana are at the low ebb as compared to the secular artistes is that they do not invest in their brands.
He said Ghanaian gospel musician do not package themselves well – and until that culture changes, they would still not be able to get big deals in the music industry.
“We need to see a time when gospel musicians would be brand ambassadors for telcos, first-class multi-million companies, we need to see that time when one gospel musician will have the capacity to fill a whole stadium,” he stated.
EBA has premiered his debut solo single, titled ‘Balm of Gilead’ under the aegis of Praise Factory Studios.
