Entertainment critic and movie producer, Ola Michael has blamed the current state of Ghana movie industry on Juliet Asante and David Dontoh.
According to him, the current state is one that he describes as “we’re picking up”, explaining that “we went to sleep and maybe had a bit of romance with our beds and now we’re up knowing that there’s money to be made.”
Speaking to Jay Foley and Emefa Adeti on Joy Prime’s morning show he mentioned that from conversations he has had with the Board Chairman of National Film Authority, David Dontoh and the board chairman of National Film and Television Institute, Juliet Asante, he drew the conclusion that they know nothing about the office they occupy.
“David Dontoh is the Board Chairman and I can tell you for a fact he doesn’t even understand what his position is.
“He doesn’t even know the law that gave him that mandate and then Juliet Asante is the Board Chairman for NAFTI and she’s the CEO for National Film Authority and when she was appointed she didn’t even know the law existing,” he noted.
In December 2019, President Akufo Addo made David Dontoh the Chairman of an appointed fourteen (14) member governing board to the National Film Authority (NFA) who is expected to advise the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture on matters affecting the film industry and facilitate marketing of locally produced films.
Juliet Asante was appointed the Board Chairman for NAFTI in March 2018 but since their inauguration, Ola Michael says they have been inactive.
“The thing is that we have the body that is supposed to oversee everything we do and also supposed to regulate your contents here but they are sleeping.
He believes there are no challenges holding them back from doing the works for which they were appointed to office and that the appointment happening in December is no excuse adding that “after the president inaugurated them, that’s it. We don’t hear from them.”
