Actress Yvonne Nelson says Ghana’s biggest problem is the attitude of the people.
She believes the citizens’ response to issues is what fuels little or no performance from the leaders, adding that “so people are just not accountable, our leaders, they just do stuff and get away with it”.
Speaking to Jessica and Just Kwamina on Citi FM’s Traffic Avenue, she named religion as another problem Ghana has.
“…we have to go on grounds and do certain things but people will go to church and pray about it but God has given you the brains to actually do this and do that, invent stuff, make things happen but people would rather go to the church”
According to her, there are lots of problems to be tackled but a change of attitude is what Ghana needs.
“I think we just have to change our attitudes. It’s a Ghanaian thing. It started long ago. Our problems are plenty…”
She has over a period of time shown interest in politics which she said started from her ‘dumsor’ vigil.
The ‘dumsor’ vigil which was held in May 2015 started with just a hashtag on twitter. She explained it wasn’t planned but she realized people were suffering, others were dying and something just had to be done.
“…I was home, the lights were off and I remember I was so hot. I wouldn’t use my generator. The fuel is too expensive so I just said to myself ‘Charlie this nonsense has to stop’. I remember I was eating a mango, I was sweating …so I went on twitter, I was like #DumsorMustStop. That was it. So the next morning I woke up and I realized the thing was trending. Everybody was tweeting their dumsor stories”
“I started calling a few of my colleagues; musicians, actors, I was like let’s not just stay on social media. Let’s go out and do something and that’s just how it started. It wasn’t planned. It was just me sweating on my bed” she narrated.
